    Welcome to Seedling Scoop!
    September 15, 2005

Thanks to the folks at ABC Channel 7 and Steve Dolinksy for a great story and photos of the orchard. To see the piece, go to ABC Website, and click the video link.

Apples are coming in...more varieties become available every week: Red Cortland, McIntosh, Golden Supreme, Gala, Jonathan, HoneyCrisp, Mutsu (First time), Jonagold (first time) and possibly more.

Pears are great too. Variety in pears? You bet...the classic Bartlett's are tremendous, while we have giant Spartlett, an heirloom variety called Howell (listed on the Slow Food Ark of Taste); that is a beautiful shape and has a mellow flavor. We will start harvesting a few asian pear varieties as well - almost a cross between an apple and a pear.

Don't forget special events coming up this week:
(Join us at the Chopping Block on September 20th - for a class on Pears and we will be at the Lincoln Square Apple Fest on September 17th - apples ).

Check out our new look web site! We are still adjusting our in stock/out of stock positions. Sorry, those markets keep us busy!...Now is a great time to Adopt-a-tree, (so you can attend our October 23rd U-pick party!) or send a gift of apples (The Apple Club -- 3 shipments -- a delicious treat for yourself or those too far away to visit one of our markets.

At Scooters (1658 W Belmont Ave); every Sunday is Seedling Sorbet day...September is Apple Cider Sorbet.

At Angel Food Bakery (1636 W Montrose Ave) our Pears will be featured in a delicious Pear Butterscotch Bar.
